Türkiye’nin ilk engelli dalış eğitmeni, engel tanımaz Ufuk Koçak’la Haber Revizyon Dergisi olarak bir röportaj gerçekleştirdik. Kendisiyle ‘Engelsiz Deniz Projesi’ kapsamındaki çalışmalarından ve geleceğe ilişkin projelerinden bahsettik.
Haber Revizyon : Türkiye’yi yasa boğan 17 Ağustos Depremi ile yeni bir hayatın başlangıcını yaptınız. Bizlere kendinizden ve bu süreç içerisinde yaşadıklarınızdan biraz bahsedebilir misiniz?
Ufuk KOÇAK: 1976 Kars doğumluyum. İlkokul’u orada okudum, geri kalan öğrenimimi Kocaeli’nde tamamladım. Fakat benim asıl hikayem depremden sonra başlıyor. Bu bir dirilişin, yeniden bir yaşanmışlığın hikayesidir.
Çünkü bir sürü insan depremi yaşadı.Deprem gecesi depremin 10. saniyesinde evim üzerime yıkılmaya başladı. Bu durum sonrası ne olduğunu hala anlayamamıştım. Çevreden insan seslerinin geldiğini duydum. Bulunduğum yerin her mevkisinden sesler geliyordu.
Yaklaşık 3 gün enkaz altında kaldım. Sadece bizim evin salonunda bir aralık vardı. Babam ve arkadaşlarım İstanbul’dan geldiler ve o aralıktan sürünerek beni çıkardılar. Enkazdan çıkarıldıktan sonra helikopterle GATA’ya sevk edildim ve burada yapılan operasyonla iki bacağım kesildi.
Rehabilitasyon sürecinden sonra Almanya’ya gittim. Protezlerim yapıldı ve yürüme eğitimi aldım.
Bir sürü insanın hayatında dönüm noktaları olmuştur ama benim kırılma noktam; her şeye rağmen hayat devam ediyorsa hala, ‘yaşayacaksın’ diyebilmem oldu.”
“Hayatı yeniden bir oya, nakış işler gibi tek tek parça parça işlemeye başladım. Çünkü hayatın içerisinde kalıp, sadece kuru kuruya nefes alıp vermek değildir hayat. Fotosentez yapmaya gerek yok. İnsanın yaşadığı hayatın hakkını mutlaka vermesi gerekiyor. Yaşam, sadece soluk alıp vermek değildir. İnsanın ayaklı ya da ayaksız olması önemli değil. İnsanın birazcık yaşama durup bakması, omurgalı olması, dik durabilmesi gerekiyor. Bende onu yaptım ve hayatın içerisinde yaşamaya başladım.”
Haber Revizyon : Kısa adı IDDA olan Uluslararası Engelli Dalıcılar Birliği’nin (International Divers Disable dAssocation) Recreational Scuba Training Council (RSTC) onaylı ilk uluslararası engelli dalış eğitmeni oldunuz. Eğitmen olmaya nasıl karar verdiniz ve nasıl bir eğitimden geçtiniz?
Ufuk KOÇAK: 2003 yılında spor yapmaya başladım.İlk olarak tekerlekli sandalye ile basketbol ve tenis oynamaya çalıştım. Daha sonra Değirmendere Su altı Topluluğu Spor Kulübü Derneği’nde (DESSAT) Murat Kulakaç ile tanışmam hayatımın tamamen değişmesine yol açtı.Onunla sualtı eğitimlerine başladık ve dalış sporunda en üst seviyeye kadar ilerledim.
Basın İlan Kurumu Tatil Köyü Tesisleri’nde gerçekleştirilen Uluslararası Engelli Dalıcılar Birliği’nin (International Divers Disabled Assocation) eğitmen kampına katıldım.
IDDA Kurs Direktörleri Eğitmen Eğiticileri Bahattin Memişoğlu ve Jürgen Kapella’nın gözetiminde gerçekleştirilen eğitimlerde engellilere yaklaşım, taşıma teknikleri, suya indirme, sudan çıkarma, kurtarma, engelli dalıcı eğitmenliği gibi birçok konuda eğitim aldım. Eğitim sonunda sertifikamı alarak uluslararası sistemin ilk temsilcisi oldum ve engelli eğitmeni ünvanını kazandım.
Haber Revizyon : Milli Dalgıç Şahika Ercümen, Sualtı Görüntü Yönetmeni Tahsin Ceylan ve Değirmendere Sualtı Topluluğu (DESSAT) ‘nun değerli eğitmeni Murat Kulakaç ile projeleriniz oldu. Bizlere biraz bunlardan bahsedebilir misiniz?
Ufuk KOÇAK: Engelsiz Dalış Projesi 4yıl önce başladı. Hem koordinatörü hem fikir babası benim çünkü ben bu dalış dünyasının huzurunu keyfini yaşadıktan sonra dedim ki bu benim tek başıma yaşayacağım bir duygu değil. Bunu diğer arkadaşlarımda yaşamalı.
Bir yol açabilmek için oturdum bu projeyi yazdım. DESSAT ve Engelliler Yardımlaşma ve Dayanışma Derneği işbirliği ile bu proje kapsamında, 2 yıl önce bizim Engelsiz Deniz Projemiz başladı. Engelli arkadaşları dalgıç yapmaya başladık. Ulusal anlamda bir ses getirelim istedik. Türkiye’de ilk defa bir sualtı fotoğraf sergisi açtık.
Bu fotoğrafları Değirmendere’de, depremde su altında kalan çınarların, otellerin olduğu yere açalım istedim. Bu işle ilgili bir ilki başarırken, diğer taraftan da deprem bilinciyle ilgili deprem farkındalığı yaratabilmeyi amaçladım. Yalnız, başlatmış olduğumuz Engellileri Anlıyorum Ulusal Fotoğraf Yarışması’nın ana şartnamesi, sadece hayatın içindeki engellilerin fotoğraflarının yer alması.
Çünkü ağlayan, üzülen, engellere takılmış engellileri görmek istemiyoruz. Biz bu adamların başaran taraflarını, hayatın içine giren tarafını aktaralım istedik.Mardin’den, Edirne’ye kadar ülkenin her yerinden yaklaşık 5 yüze yakın fotoğraf geldi. Ulusal ve saygın bir jüriyle biz bunların 50 tanesini ayırdık ve su altında sergiledik ve dedik ki bu fotoğrafları sadece dalgıçlar görmemeli.
Dışarıya dev ekranlar kurarak canlı yayınla su altındaki sergiyi, dalgıçların ziyaretini, karadaki insanlara da aktardık. Bununla beraberde bir ilki başarmış olduk.
Beldemiz içinde iyi oldu. Etkinliğimize IMF Başkanı Christine Lagarde, eski Devlet Bakanı Kürşat Tüzmen, Dünya Serbest Dalış Rekortmeni Şahika Ercümen, erkeklerde Devrim Cenk Ulusoy katıldı. Yüzümüzü suya doğru döndük. Toplumda yüzünü bize dönerse sıkıntı olmadan yürüyüp gideceğiz.
Ayrıca başta ülkemiz karasuları olmak üzere dünyanın pek çok noktasında görüntüleme amaçlı sayısız dalış gerçekleştiren ünlü Sualtı Fotoğrafçısı ve Görüntüleme Yönetmeni Tahsin Ceylan ile 17 Ağustos depreminde sular altında kalan Değirmendere batıkşehir başta olmak üzere Kefken-Kerpe ve Turkuazoo Akvaryum’ da çekilen fotoğraf kareleri ile TAV ‘da EngelSİZsiniz’ Sergisi’nde yer aldık.
Haber Revizyon: Bildiğimiz kadarıyla 2014 yılında engellilere yönelik yepyeni projeleriniz var. Neler yapmayı planlıyorsunuz?
Ufuk KOÇAK: 2016 RİO Olimpiyatları’na hazırlanıyorum. Yelken milli takımındayım. Paralimpik olimpiyat yelkenlisi. Kış boyu antrenmanlarımı Körfez’de yapacağım. Önümüzdeki yılın Şubat, Mart aylarında biri Fransa’da biri İspanya’da iki turnuva olacak. Paralimpik olimpiyatlar öncesi oradaki yarışlara da katılacağım, derece bekliyorum.
Diğer taraftan Engelsiz Deniz’le ilgili gerek su üstü, gerekse altı çalışmalarım devam edecek. 2014 yılında biz bunu Türkiye geneline taşıyacağız. Engelsiz Deniz Projesi’ni 7 bölgeye, 7 şehre taşıyacağız.
Van, Ordu, Elazığ, Diyarbakır gibi şehirlerde eğitimler vereceğim. Oradaki engelli dernekleriyle toplanıp arkadaşları yetiştirip ‘Su Altı Temizliği Karınca Takım’ kurmayı düşünüyorum.
Bu ekiple, düzenli olarak Marmara’da, İstanbul Boğazı’nda, Karadeniz’de, Ege’de Akdeniz’de toplanıp su altı temizliği yapacağız. Tamamı engellilerden oluşan bir KarıNca Takımı, çevre temizliğiyle ilgili bir misyon üstlenecek.
Dalış benim yaptığım tek iş değil. Aynı zamanda, rüzgar sörfü, yelken, kaya tırmanışı, su kayağı, tenis, Of Road, motor sporları, kampçılık ve tekerlekli sandalye basketbol takımında oynuyorum.
Hayatın içinde yaşanmışlık dediğim sporların hepsini yapıyorum. Çünkü hayatın bir kenarından ıskalarsanız, o treni kaçırırsanız olabildiğince geride kalırsınız.
Artık sizin geri dönüp bakacağınız tek şey, başınıza gelen talihsiz bir hayat olur. Sistemin sebep olduğu kazalar, depremler ve onları yaşamak zorunda kalıyorsunuz. Onun için olabildiğince hayatın içinde olmaya çalışıyorum.
Haber Revizyon : Gördüğümüz kadarıyla bizlere ve hayata rağmen engel tanımayan bir kişiliğiniz var. Bu yaşadığınız süreçte karşılaştığınız zorluklardan, ülkemizde engelli vatandaşlarımız için yapılması gerekenlerden bahsedebilir misiniz?
Ufuk KOÇAK: Ülkenin durumuna genel olarak bakarsak, içler acısı. Ulaşımla ilgili problem çözülmüş değil. Kaldırımlar yapılıyor, rampalar koymuşlar her tarafa. Son zamanlarda görme engellilerin yolu moda oldu ama az bir şey inceleyip baktığınız zaman tamamen pervasızca konuyla ilgili hiç bir eğitimi olmayan bir adamın döşemiş olduğu bir yol, direğe çıkabiliyor, çöp bidonuna çıkabiliyor veyahut engellileri durdurabilecek stopları aralara süs olsun diye yerleştirebiliyor. Kimisi alıyor dükkanının önüne şekil olsun diye kapı girişi gibi yapıyor.
Öyle bir aymazlıkta var çünkü işin ehli insan yok bizde. Rampa yap deniyor adama rampanın maksimum yüksekliğinin 8 derece olması lazım, açısı 10-15 derece olan rampalar var. Bu tekerlekli sandalye rampası değil, olsa olsa uçuş rampası olur. Görme engelli bir insanın parayı nasıl tanıdığını bilmiyor kimse.
Bu insanlar hala yanlarında bir refakatçi bulundurmak zorundalar. Yarım insan sayılıyorlar. Halbuki paranın üstüne yapılacak basit bir işaret ile bu işler çok rahatlıkla çözülebilir. Maalesef düşünme konusunda çok ciddi problemlerimiz olduğu için, genel bir engelli toplumumuz var, uzvu eksik engellenen insanlara karşı. Şu konu benim çok hassas olduğum bir konu.
Türkiye’de de bunu ilk söyleyen benim.
Engelli diye bir kavram yok, engellenen diye bir durum söz konusu. Fırsatlar, olanaklar, çevresel koşulların hepsi düzenlendiği zaman uzvu tam olan insanlarla, eksik olan insanların arasında bir fark olmadığını göreceğiz.
Su altı engelsiz bir dünya. Çünkü engelleri aşabilmek, engelsiz ortamlarla başlar. Önce engelsiz ortamların yaratılması gerekiyor. Su altıda bizim için öyle.
Su altına indiğim zaman ayaklı olan bir dalgıçla aramızda bir fark olmuyor. Her şeyi aynı şekilde yapabiliyoruz. Ülke genelinde zihniyet ve bakış açısı çok farklı. Çözüm devlet dairelerini engelsiz hale getirmekte değil. İnsanların buraya sadece ayda bir işleri düşerse düşer, düşmeyebilirde. Gerekirse bu işlerini birine de yaptırabilirler.
Önemli olan cafeteryaların, restauratların, eğlence mekanlarının engelsiz hale getirilebilmesi. Çünkü bizim problemimiz bu insanların dışarı çıkamıyor olması. Bu insanlar dışarı çıkamadığı için, insanlarda bunları görmüyorlar, görmedikleri için yok sayıyorlar. Böyle böyle parça parça her şey zincirleme gidiyor.
Bizde o arkadaşları dışarı çıkarmaya çalışıyoruz. Dışarı çıktıklarında insanlar bunları gördükleri zaman bir takım farkındalıklar oluşacak.
Bunu şöyle örnekliyim Değirmendere’de Çınarlık Meydanı’nda ilk dalış yapacağım zaman protezlerimi çıkartıp yürüdüğümde etrafımda bir sürü insan toplandı. Çünkü oturarak yürüyordum ellerimin yardımıyla.
Sonraki dalışlarımda yavaş yavaş insanlarda bir farkındalık oluştu. Artık tekrar tekrar dönüp bakma gereği duymuyorlar. Niye çünkü artık böyle bir adam gördü bu insanlar, iki ayağı olmayan ve bu şekilde hareket eden ve alıştılar artık dönüp bakma gereği duymuyorlar.
Değirmendere’dekiler bana alıştılar. Şort giyiyorum, protez bacaklarım demir aksamı olan şeyler ilk gördüğü zaman insanlar yavaş yavaş bu nedir diye durup inceliyorlar ama zamanla artık insanlar alışıyor. Farkındalık bu şekilde oluşturulacak.
Haber Revizyon : Engelli vatandaşlarımıza pencerenin arkasından hayatı izlememeleri ve yaşama karışmaları için neleri tavsiye edersiniz?
Ufuk KOÇAK: Sokağa çıkın diyorum. Ne kadar çok sokağa çıkarlarsa o kadar farkındalık yaratacaklar. Artık belediyelerden, devletten şundan bundan bir şeyler beklemeyi bıraksınlar. Aşılacak, kırılacak bir zincir varsa, önce kendilerini kırsınlar. Kendilerini sokağa atsınlar. Her şey insanların bu insanları görmesi ve bu insanlara dokunmasıyla başlayacak başka türlü algılarını kıramazsınız.

As Haber Revizyon magazine, we made an interview with Turkey’s first disabled diving instructor Ufuk Koçak in. We talked about his work within the scope of ‘Unburdened Sea Project’ and future projects.
Haber Revizyon : You started a new life together with August 17th Earthquake that deeply saddened Turkey. Can you mention us somewhat about yourself and what you have lived within this duration?
Ufuk Koçak : “I was born in Kars in 1976. I attended primary school there; and completed my remaining education in Kocaeli. But, my main story begins after the earthquake. This is the story of a resurrection, of a relived.
Because a lot of people lived the earthquake. My house began to collapse on me on the 10th second of the Earthquake in the night of the Earthquake. I had not able to fully understand what had been after this situation. I heard people voices coming from around. Voices were coming from all locations of the place where I found. I stayed under the debris about 3 days. There was a gap at saloon of our house only. My father and my friends came from Istanbul; and took me out of that gap by crawling. After I was taken out of the debris, I was dispatched to GATA (Military Medical Academy of Gülhane) by helicopter; and two of my legs were cut in an operation performed there. I went to Germany after the rehabilitation process. My prosthesis were made and I was trained on walking.
There may be turning points in lives of a lot of people but the fact that I could say myself “You will live” if the life still continues although everything became my breaking point.
I started again to tambour the life like embroidering one by one and fragmentarily. Because, the life is not only breathing in vain by staying in the life. Making photosynthesis is not required. It is absolutely required that a human should remunerate the life. The life is not only breathing. It is not important that human is with or without feet. It is a essential that human should look at the life for a while, must be backboned, and be able to stand upright. I also did it and started to live in the life.”
Haber Revizyon : You became the first international disabled diver trainer of International Divers Disable dAssociation (IDDA) approved by Recreational Scuba Training Council (RSTC). How did you decide to become the trainer and which training have you passed?
Ufuk Koçak :I started sport in 2003. First, I tried to play basketball and tennis with wheel chair. Then, the fact that I met to Murat Kulakaç in Underwater Sport Club Association of Değirmendere (DESSAT) caused to change of my life completely. I, together with him, started to underwater trainings and I advanced up to the highest level in the diving sport.
I attended into the Trainer’s Camp of International Divers Disabled Assocation held at Holiday Village Facilities of Press Announcement Institution. I was trained on a lot of matters such as approaching to disableds, carriage techniques, launching, emersion, resque, disabled diver coaching in the trainings carried out under the supervision of IDDA course directors Trainer coaches Bahattin Memişoğlu and Jürgen Kapella. At the end of the training, I received my certificate and I became the first representative of International System; and deserved to title of Disabled Trainer.
Haber Revizyon :Have you got some projects with National Team Diver Şahika Ercümen, Director of Underwater Photography Tahsin Ceylan and valuable trainer of Underwater Sport Club Association of Değirmendere (DESSAT) Murat Kulakaç? Can you mention us about these?
Ufuk Koçak : Non-handicapped Diving Project started 4 years ago. I am both coordinator and mastermind of it, because after I lived the peace and joy of this diving world, I said that this is not a feeling that I live lonely. My other friends also should live this.
I sat and wrote this project in order to be able to open a way. Our Non-handicapped Sea Project started 2 years ago under this project in collaboration with DESSAT and Disabled Cooperation and Solidarity Association. We started to make disabled friends a diver. We wanted to influence in national size. For the first time in Turkey, we opened an underwater photography exhibition. I wanted to open this exhibition in Değirmendere were plane trees, hotels which remained under the water. While we achieve a first in relation to earthquake, on the other hand I wanted to be able to create earthquake awareness in relation to the earthquake consciousness. I understand the disableds we have started. The main specification of the National Photography Contest is to exhibit the photos of disableds in the life only. Because we don’t want to see the disableds who are crying, worrying and obstructed by obstacles. We wanted to reflect the achieving sides of these men into the life. About 500 photos came from everywhere of the Country Mardin to Edirne. We separated 50 of these with a national and a reputable jury; and exhibited them; and also said that no only divers should see these photos. We also reflected, with live broadcasting, the exhibition and visiting of divers at underwater to the people on land by installing giant screens to outside. However, we became who achieved a first. It became good for also our town. IMF President Christine Lagarde, the former State Minister Kürşat Tüzmen, the World Free Diving record holder Şahika Ercümen, Devrim Cenk Ulusoy at men participated in our activity. We faced towards water. We will go ahead without any nuisance if the society faces towards us.
Furthermore, we participated in at TAV the You are not disabled& You are the obstacle (EngelSİZsiniz) exhibitions, together with famous underwater photographer and Underwater Photography Director Tahsin Ceylan who made counrless of diving in order to take Underwater Photography, at a lot of points of the world first of all at coastal waters of our country with, first, photo frames taken at Değirmendere Batıkşehir which had submerged and, Kefken-Kerpe and Turkuazoo Akvaryum.
Haber Revizyon : As far as we know, you have totally new projects towards disableds in 2014. What are you planning to do?
Ufuk Koçak : I am preparing to 2016 RIO Olympics. I am in National Sailing Rig. Paralympic Olympic Sailing Boat. I will do my trainings at the Gulf during all Winter. There will be two tournaments in next year on February and March, one of them is in France and the other is in Spain. I will also participate in the races at that location prior to the Paralympic Olympics, I expect degree. On the other hand, my surface and underwater studies in relation to Non-handicapped Sea will continue. We will carry this throughout Turkey, in 2014. We will carry the Non-handicapped Sea Project to 7 regions, 7 cities. I will train in cities such as Van, Ordu, Elazig, Diyarbakir. I aim to set up ‘Underwater Cleaning Ant Team’ by meeting with Disabled Associations at that location and training the friends. We will carry out underwater cleaning at Marmara, Bosphorus, Black Sea, Aegean Sea, Mediterranean by regularly gathering with this team. An Ant Team consisting of fully disableds will undertake a mission in relation to environmental cleaning.
I diving is not single work I do. I also play in teams of wind surf, sailing, rock climbing, water skiing, tennis, Off Road, motor sports, camping and wheelchair basketball. I do all of sports that I say true life experience. Because, if you miss the life from any side, and miss that train, you fall extremely behind. Than, the single thing you will look at by turning back is an unlucky life you experienced. You will have to live the accidents, earthquakes caused by the system. For that reason, I try to be in the life as much as possible.
Haber Revizyon : As far as we have seen, you have a determined personality although us and life. Can you mention about the difficulties you faced within this period you lived, and about what should be done by disabled citizens of our country?
Ufuk Koçak : It is miserable, if we generally look at the situation of the Country. The problem in relation to transportation has not been solved yet. Sidewalks are built, they had put ramps to everywhere. Recently, the way of visually handicapped people became fashion; but when we studied a little we can see that the way furnished by one who was not trained on the subject may face to a post, to a trash barrel, or they may insert the stops which can stop disableds as ornaments. Some of them make just as door entrance before their shops. There is also so kind of carelessness because we have not any qualified person. The man is said “make ramp.” Maximum highness of the ramp must be 8 degree but unfortunately there are 10-15 degrees of ramps. This is not ramp of wheelchair, it is flying ramp at best. No body knows that how does a visually handicapped people recognize money. These people still have to have a companion near them. They are respected as half-human. However, these problems can be solved easily by putting a simple sigh on the money. Unfortunately, we have a general disabled society against disabled people with missing organ because of we have very serious problems on thinking. The subject is a subject on which I am vey sensitive.
I am the first one who said this in Turkey.
There is no concept called disabled; there is a question of called deterred. We will see that there will not be any difference between people with full of organs and the people with deficient organs.
Underwater is a non-handicapped world. Because of being able to go beyond of obstacles, starts together with non-handicapped environments. First of all, non-handicapped environments should be created. The underwater is also so for us. When I dive to underwater, no difference remains between me and a diver with feet. We can do everything in the same way. Mentality and perspective throughout the country is very different. Solution is not making public offices non-handicapped. Perhaps the people need public offices’s help one time in a month or it may not. If necessary, they can get somebody do their these works. It is essential that cafeterias, restaurants, entertainment venues are made non-handicapped. Because our problem is the fact that these people can not go out. Because of these people can not go out, the people do not see them, an consequently they ignore because they don’t see. Everything are going in successive in this way, fragmentary. We are working to take that friends out. When they com out, and the people see these, they will have a set of awareness. Let me ensample this so: A lot of people met around me when I put off my prosthesis and walk at Çınarlık Square in Değirmendere while I was divin first time. Because I was walking by sitting thanks to my hands. An awareness was formed, gradually, in behaves of the people during my later divings. No longer, they do not need to look back again and again. Why? Because of these people saw such a man. A man who has not two feet and moving in this way; and no longer they accustomed to and no longer thet don’t need to look at. Those people in Degirmendere accustomed me. I wear short. The people stop and view my prosthesis legs which are made of iron when they see for the first time and wonders what are these? But in time, they accustomed to. Awareness will be created in this way.
Haber Revizyon : What do you recommend for our disabled citizens them not to watch out of the window the life; and them to mixed up in life?
Ufuk Koçak : I say go out to street. The more they go out to street, the more they will create awareness. No longer let them leave to expect from municipalities, from state, from this and that. If there is a chain to be broken, let them break themselves first. Let them throw themselves into the street. Everything will start upon the people see these people and touch to these people. You can not break their perception in any other way.
